Yes Man, Elf, The Happening and 500 Days of Summer, actress Zooey Deschanel got engaged earlier this month to Ben Gibbard, the lead singer of Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service. Deschanel is also a musician and singer for the group She & Him.

They have been dating for almost a year, and shared the stage together — dueting on a cover of the Everly Brothers’ “Dream” — at an Obama fundraiser this past August.

Deschanel’s She & Him released their debut album on indie stalwart Merge Records earlier this year. Gibbard’s Death Cab released a string of albums on tiny Barsuk Records from 1998-2004 as well as the ultra-successful Postal Service album Give Up on Sub Pop in ‘03 until making it big with 2005’s Plans.

London plans to honour Sir Elton John, by having a street named after him. He is after all, one of their most famous residents.

A local programme has plans in the works to celebrate local heroes. Susan Hall, the vice president of the council, truly admires the singer and musician. She explains:

“He is a real showman. He came from humble beginnings and it shows that if you have talent and drive you can become as famous as him.”

Simon Le Bon and Billy Idol are also being considered for the same honour.

Ever the diva, Mariah Carey had the audacity to ask British Airways to bump 16 ticket-holders so she could pre-empt their reserved seats and fly Heathrow-JFK with her posse of 10 just so they could have the privacy of several empty-but-paid-for seats.

The airline flatly refused, says My Spy: “That’s outrageous! We can’t bump SIXTEEN people with just two days’ notice!”

No is not in her vocab apparently because she ended up chartering a private jet.

Dita also talked about why she decided to create her collection of lingerie:

She’s pretty demure for a stripper and sets a great example for some of the skanks in Hollywood on how to dress!

This is an update on the post made on here yesterday about Lindsay ranting on MySpace about her father having an affair on her mother which resulted in her having a half-sister.

Lindsay’s father, Michael Lohan, sent an email to PEOPLE strongly denying his daughter’s claim, and said in a separate conversation he believes there is a “99 percent chance” Lohan’s MySpace message was actually written by her girlfriend, Samantha Ronson.

The news of this must still be a shock for Lindsay as she referred to her half sister as “it”…as in “he had it…”

On the other hand, I imagine it had to be especially painful to the young girl, hearing about her famous half-sister calling her an ‘it.’ Shame really, as none of this was her fault and she is a little person with feelings.

Hilary Duff rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange in New York City today. She was there supporting one of her charities, Blessing in a Backpack. The charity works to provide free meals to underprivileged school children.

Hilary was voted #4 Best Dressed Celeb of 2008 according to PapierDoll. Beyonce was their 1st choice winner.

Kellie Pickler just wrote this entry on her MySpace page to update her fans about the USO tour of military bases she just went on. What a nice thing to do for the troops. It’s always nice to hear when celebrities take time out to give back to those who are so far away from home.

She writes:

“I am more tired than I have ever been in my life and I don’t mind it at all. I just got back from my second USO tour. Once again, the most incredible thing I have ever done in my life.
I don’t think I have ever flown this much in my life. Monday we flew to Washington where we joined Admiral Mike Mullen (chairman of the joint chief of staff) to board our flight on a C-32 to Germany. That is where we kicked off our first show. I still can’t believe that in a matter of 6 days we flew to Germany, Afghanistan, Iraq, Kosovo, and England. The shows did not start until we landed on Tuesday and if I remember correctly we did 9 shows in 5 days!!!! I guess I am still on auto pilot, not sure why I am even up right now as I just got in from England late last night. lol. I don’t think this trip has really sunk in yet so it might take me a while to absorb everything….I’m kinda drawing blanks right now. I do however remember two things….seeing the faces of over 20,000 military men and women (that is forever imprinted in my mind) and….the horrific endless sight of porta potties (that too is forever imprinted in my mind).

She recorded the video message below from the photo shoot for her upcoming single, “My Life Would Suck Without You”. The song is off her new fourth studio album (with a debut date set for March 17, 2009).

The song’s officiall release to radio will take place the week of January 19, 2009… though there will most likely hit the net before that!

Janet Jackson is not pregnant, says her longtime boyfriend Jermaine Dupri in his blog.

Jermaine took to his blog to set the rumour straight, and he did it all in caps:

“So here you have it… no she is not pregnant and yes we’re still together,” he wrote on his blog, Global14.com.

Pregnancy rumors started after she canceled several of her concert shows and then was featured on the cover of recent issue of Life & Style magazine with a photo of her and the headline, “Yes, I’m Pregnant.”

“It baffles me how yall [sic] let these blog and magazines control your lifes [sic],” he wrote on his December 18th post. He went on to say: “That’s why I created global14.com so when ever [sic] hear s— about me you can come right here and get the truth.”

Paris Hilton has been robbed again, and this time it’s for an estimated $2 million in jewelry and other belongings. She wasn’t in her Los Angeles area home early this morning when the burglary occurred.

“At 5am on December 19, LAPD received a call from security at Paris Hilton’s gated community informing us of a break in,” LAPD officer Ana Aguirre tells Star. “A man in a hooded sweatshirt forced his way into Ms. Hilton’s home and ransacked the premises. Ms. Hilton was not home when the break-in occurred. Preliminary reports indicate jewelry and other belongings were taken. At this time we are uncertain of the total value of items taken but it could exceed $2 million dollars.”

The Los Angeles Times initially reported that the thief got into the house through an unlocked door.

Detectives were at her home today conducting interviews and investigating. A source told the paper that the house is equipped with security video equipment.

Paris moved into 7,493-square-foot Sherman Oaks house in 2007.

In 2004, the Hollywood Hills home she lived in with her sister, Nicky Hilton, was also burglarized. At the time Paris told a local TV station that she was cleaned out.

“[The burglar took] everything! All my valuables. All my jewelry. All my money,” she told told Los Angeles station KABC-TV.

She wasn’t home at the time of that robbery either. Lucky for her.

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale took their kids Kingston and baby Zuma along with them while they went shopping. The family seems to enjoy the hustle and bustle of the holiday season in Beverly Hills despite the rain. They even brought their nanny along.

I can’t help but notice how stylishly dressed they all are. The kids even got in a visit with Santa.

Posh is going through a prim phase these days and has even admitted she regrets the way her boobs were always so close to popping out in the past.

Starpulse is reporting that Vickie says she:

“cringes when she looks back at old photos of herself – because the low-cut dresses she wore showed off too much cleavage.”

Now that she has her own fashion line, you see, and now that she is designing clothing, she can see where things went awry in the past.

She went on to add:

“I know how a dress should sit. I’ve worn so many in the past and when I see the photographs I think, crikey, my boobs are up round my neck again, because the corsets are too short and not cut high enough.”

There’s something so fascinating about her, from what she wears around town, like fancy see through nighties or heel-less high-heeled thigh-high platform boots… but now she’s into being demure.

I agree, it’s about time she did!
